#11 The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate by Jacqueline Kelly

Recommended to kids age 10-12. Calpurnia Tate doesn't like sewing or cooking. As the only girl out of seven kids in the family, she is expected to cook, clean, sew, wash, and all other things. However, she would rather be outside with her grandfather, catching and observing bugs, then letting them go again, exploring the river, and just enjoying the little things of nature. Her mother doesn't believe that being like that is good for her, and tries to make a little housewife of her. Callie is confused, and doesn't know what to do. Follow her as she tries to figure out a path for her life. This book is geared towards girls.
