#13 After Hamelin by Bill Richardson

Recommended for kids ages 12.  Waking up on her eleventh birthday, Penelope finds that she has mysteriously gone deaf. That same day, the unpaid Pied Piper, who brought the rats out of the city, decides to take action. Her deafness saves her, one of the remaining two children. A wise old man tells her that it is up to her to save the rest of the kids. Will she be able to do it? This is a VERY VERY creative book. I don't usually read fantasy books like this, so it was different for me, but I enjoyed it. The whole time I was reading it, I couldn't get over how different, creative, and clever it was. Anybody, boy or girl, who likes fantasy books, will love this. 1/2
