#19 The Penderwicks: A Summer Tale of Four Sisters, Two Rabbits, and a Very Interesting Boy by Jeanne Birdsall

Recommended to kids ages 10-12. The lovable Penderwick family consists of four very different girls and their father. Daddy is very laid back, and lets the girls do pretty much whatever they want to. 12-year-old Rosalind acts as the girls mother. Skye, 11, is hot-headed and wild. Jane is 10, and an aspiring author of Sabrina Starr mysteries. Batty, a shy little 4-year-old, wears butterfly wings around. They are on their way to the Berkshire Mountains for summer vacation, to stay at a little cottage on the Arundel estate. When they arrive that is the start of many adventures, including meeting Jeffrey and his snobby mother, Rosalind's crush on Cagney, the 18-year-old gardener, Batty and the rabbits, and many, many others. Oh, what a great book this is! I love it. I love the Penderwick family. They are so real, and so likeable. Jeanne Birdsall created a wonderful story. Girls will enjoy this book more than boys, but then again it could go either way.
